April 2009
Welcome to my website...Lots has happened since my last update, which I will write about in a moment. But the most important event of the last couple of months was getting married
to my lovely wife, Julie.
At the end of January, American trumpet soloist
Rex Richardson gave the world premiere of Apophenia, a concerto
for trumpet and band. He performed this with the Fodens Band (Conducted by Garry Cutt) at the Royal Northern College of Music Festival of Brass. The work was commissioned by, and is dedicated to, Rex
and features the soloist on Bb trumpet, flugel and piccolo trumpet. In mid-April, Rex also gave the American premiere VCU Symphonic Winds, conducted by Terry Austin.
Apophenia is now available with both brass and wind band from
Peter Meechan Music, and the solo part is available for free
download from the same website.
Crazy Diamonds Shining is a concerto for soprano sax, originally with a large orchestral accompaniment, but now published by
G and M Brand for soprano saxophone and wind orchestra. This was given its premiere in Eindhoven, Holland, by Johan van der Linden (Soprano Saxophone) accompanied by Harmonie orkest Auletes who
were conducted by Jos Schroevers. The concert was recorded, and clips are available on youtube.com.

American euphonium soloist
Aaron Tindall commissioned a set of three unaccompanied pieces for euphonium,
titled
...a night devoid of stars. The work takes its inspiration from the writings of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.. Aaron has recorded the piece for his forthcoming CD, and will
be giving the world premiere at the Conservatoire National de Region in Perpignan, France on May 16.
Macbeth has been receiving several performances of late.
Brass Band Willebroek have been featuring the work at their concerts, as well as radio
broadcasts, over recent months, and will feature the Lament section in their concert at the 20099 European Brass Band Championships. The National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain, conducted by the magnificent
Bram Tovey, also featured the piece on their recent Easter course, performing the work at their concert in
Manchester.
I am trying to keep my blog up to date, so please have a quick look at it -

some of my not so random thoughts there.
Take care,
